The Psychology of Type

All visual design that is worth anything creates an emotional response from the viewer. Font choices are no different when it comes to emotions. Poorly chosen fonts can completely undermine the message you are trying to convey by creating inappropriate emotional triggers.


Therefore it’s important to consider the nature of each individual project and pick fonts that synergise, rather than work against you.


Here’s a simple graphic that illustrates the point by dividing fonts based on feeling. You could keep adding more and more, but this gets across the message.
